Pakistan under more pressure over Champions Trophy, disagreements among Pak officials over ICC proposal
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials are divided over next year’s Champions Trophy. Some are opposed to adopting a hybrid model for the competition, while others are in favor of not entering into a conflict with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli will not be sent to Pakistan to play Champions Trophy. After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced this decision, like the Asia Cup of 2023, ICC wants to organize the next Champions Trophy in hybrid model. In that case India’s matches will be played in Dubai. The remaining matches of the competition will be held in Pakistan. If the Indian team reaches the semi-finals or final, those matches will also be held in Dubai. Instead, ICC wants to let Pakistan play Colombo in the T-20 World Cup of 2026. Note that India and Sri Lanka are the joint organizers of the competition. That is, the PCB will not have to send a team to India. At the same time, Pakistan has the responsibility of organizing any women’s cricket competition after 2027. Did you get it?
ICC does not support this proposal and some of the PCB leaders do not support it. According to him, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqbir should not step back. He should be adamant about organizing the Champions Trophy entirely in Pakistan. Former Pakistani cricketer Rashid Lathifo is against the hybrid model. He said, “No women’s competition can be a substitute for the Champions Trophy. Should this proposal be accepted? He further said, “Now it is being said that it is 2027 or 2028 year. The responsibility of organizing the Women’s World Cup will be given to Pakistan. Many can be happy They can think of organizing two ICC competitions. But is that competition of the same quality? That means, in 2026, Pakistan team will go to India, but in 2027, Indian women’s team will come to Pakistan.
A PCB chief said, “Does the ICC want to give us a lottery? The meaning of consent and the assurance of getting the responsibility of organizing a competition. However, nothing written will be given. What is Pakistan’s benefit in that? One thing though about next year’s Asia Cup. PCB should be claimed. There will be no benefit for PCC by organizing Women’s World Cup or Under-19 World Cup. PCB will harm itself if it buys this lollipop !
